plagarism policy

Plagiarism Policy

The International Journal of English Studies and Literature (IJESL) maintains a strict policy against plagiarism to uphold the integrity and originality of academic publishing. Authors are required to submit only original work that has not been published elsewhere and is free from any form of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism involves the use of another person’s ideas, words, data, or creative expression without proper acknowledgment. This includes:

  • Copying text from published sources without citation.

  • Paraphrasing significant portions of text without appropriate attribution.

  • Reproducing figures, tables, or data without permission or acknowledgment.

  • Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously (duplicate submission).

  • Self-plagiarism, where an author republishes their previously published work without proper citation or justification.

Detection and Screening

All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using trusted plagiarism detection software (such as Turnitin or iThenticate) prior to peer review. A similarity index of more than 15–20% (excluding references and commonly used phrases) is generally not acceptable.

Consequences of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected at any stage—before or after publication—the following actions may be taken:

  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript.

  • Retraction of the published article, if plagiarism is found post-publication.

  • Blacklisting of the author(s) from future submissions.

  • Notification to the authors' affiliated institutions and funding agencies, if necessary.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are fully responsible for the content of their submissions and must ensure:

  • Proper citation of all sources.

  • Clear distinction between their original work and that of others.

  • Submission of a plagiarism-free manuscript.

By submitting a manuscript to IJESL, authors agree to comply with this plagiarism policy and understand the consequences of any violations.
